Norwich voted greenest city in the UK

16 April 2008 - For the second year running Norwich has been voted the Greenest city in the UK.

According to an annual survey by locallife.co.uk, Norwich has more green businesses, organisations and representatives per capita than anywhere else. The research has found that Norwich has one recycling centre, Green councillor, farm shop, environmental consultant, insulation installer, organic food shop, double glazing business, asbestos removal service and conservation group for every 1,736 local people.

Adrian Ramsay, Leader of the Green Party Group on Norwich City Council, commented: "We are delighted that Norwich has been voted the Greenest city in the UK again. But there is still a long way to go before Norwich becomes as fine a city as it could be. As our manifesto for the imminent local elections shows, there is much that we would still like to change for the better.

"For example, Norwich Greens intend to develop a multi-million pound capital project to develop a Council energy network based on new, cheaper photovoltaics and on-site renewable energies feedback into the grid, following examples of best practice in London, and especially Woking where a 77 per cent cut in its energy consumption has been achieved. If this were done, Norwich's green credentials would take a huge leap forward."
