Michael de Whalley selected to stand for Greens in North West Norfolk

4 October 2007 - The Green Party has selected Micheal de Whalley to stand in North West Norfolk in the widely expected general election.

Michael de Whalley is a local man who stands for peace, local public services and serious action on dangerous climate change. Michael, aged 40, is self employed, providing computer support. He attended King Edward VII School in King's Lynn and served in Iraq in 2003 with the Royal Auxiliary Air Force. He is currently studying at the Open University.

Michael has strong local connections having lived in Grimston, near King's Lynn, for much of his life. He is deeply concerned about the impact of global over-heating, and the American/British attack on Iraq: "The Green Party is about long-term policies. We have a responsibility to future generations."

"I have seen at first-hand the mistakes that were made in Iraq. Our forces should have never set foot in the country. The 'War on Terrorism' has also been used to erode our civil liberties. This is something we can change."

Michael de Whalley's core commitments to the voters of North West Norfolk are:

On Tuesday 2 October 2007, Ian Holman was selected to stand as a candidate in Great Yarmouth. Norwich Green Party has also already selected its candidates for the Norwich North and Norwich South constituencies. The Green Party candidate for Norwich South, where the Green Party topped the popular vote in the local elections in May, will be Councillor Adrian Ramsay.
