Greens Petition In Defence Of NHS25th April - Norwich Green Party is today announcing the results of its petition-drive in defence of the National Health Service. 667 signatures have been gathered on a petition urging the keeping of the NHS as a true public service, and opposing the various moves in Norfolk in particular but also across the country towards privatisation: such as the disastrous Norfolk and Norwich 'Private Finance Initiative', which resulted (as exposed by the EDP) in tens of millions of NHS funds being pocketed by a few fat cats. The petition will be presented to the Secretary of State for Health in May. Councillor Andrew Boswell, Green Party County Councillor for Nelson ward, said, "Greens reject the cuts and closures that have been threatened across NHS services in Norfolk over the last year, and we support the founding principles of the NHS, which have been betrayed by successive Conservative and New Labour governments. Voting Green on May 3 is your best chance to deliver a message of solid support for the NHS." Councillor Chris Hull, Green Party County Councillor for Town Close, added, "I am pleased that we have assembled hundreds and hundreds of names from Norwich in strong support of the NHS. Now it is up to the government to take notice of what we are all saying about this." |
