NHS Head Crisp's resignation: NHS needs consistency, say Greens

8 March 2006 - Green Party Health Spokesperson Stuart Jeffery, responding to the news that Sir Nigel Crisp - Head of the NHS in England - is to stand down, commented: "The financial crisis currently plaguing the NHS will only be exacerbated by a change in the leadership at this crucial juncture. Right now, consistency is what the NHS desperately needs"/

The Green Party's forthcoming conference (Scarborough Spa Pavilion, 16th - 19th March) will feature a plenary panel discussion with Mr. Jeffery, Jean Lambert MEP, and internationally-respected expert on the harms of health privatisation Professor Colin Leys: the panel's topic will be on the future of the NHS. The panel discussion will be chaired by Norwich Green Councillor Rupert Read.

Councillor Read commented, "Is Nigel Crisp being forced to step down because of the deep financial problems that part-privatisation has landed the NHS with, especially across counties such as Norfolk? We have a right to know".
