12 Suffolk Square Adrian was first elected as a City Councillor in 2003 at the age of 21. In 2004 he was re-elected to represent the new Nelson ward. Adrian was re-elected again to serve Nelson ward in 2007, receiving 62% of the vote. Adrian is the Co-ordinator of the Green Group on Norwich City Council and he serves on various City Council committees including Scrutiny, Waste Management, Regulatory and Licensing. Adrian spends much of his time lobbying for a more comprehensive recycling system for Norwich and he feels particularly passionate about Green Party policies on animal rights and globalisation. 16 Merton Road Claire was elected as Councillor for Nelson Ward in 2006, obtaining 61 per cent of the vote. She is involved in a number of issues in the Nelson Ward area, including the Residents Against Unthank Tesco campaign, and various road safety concerns. Before and since being elected as a councillor Ruth has been involved in a wide variety of campaigns in Wensum ward, including for road safety measures on Bowthorpe Road and Jex Road, for reducing litter and improving street cleaning around Marlpit and to save the Bowthorpe Road Post Office. 17 Merton Road Rupert became a City Councillor in 2004, representing Wensum ward, and was re-elected in 2007 with 49% of the vote. Rupert serves on the Joint Highways Committee of the City and County Councils, where he is a strong advocate of Norwich Green Party's Transport Policy. He is the Green Party's representative on Norwich Peace Council and has been a prime active opponent of the Government's aggressive foreign policy. Rupert is spokesperson on Transport for the Green Party City Councillors. 27 Clarendon Road Samir, who lives off Unthank Road, was elected as a City Councillor for Town Close ward in 2008. Samir previously worked as an economic development officer for a local council in Norfolk and now works part time for a Norwich-based international development NGO. He is particularly interested in promoting greener planning policies for the city and in encouraging and promoting ways for residents to participate in council decision-making. 163 Oak Street Adrian was elected as a City Councillor in 2004 and was re-elected to represent Mancroft ward in 2008. Before becoming a councillor Adrian was active in many local groups, such as the Wensum Valley conservation group and the Norwich Stop the War Coalition. Adrian is very active in the Mancroft ward community. For example, he regularly attends the St. Augustine's Together Residents' Association meetings and is actively supporting the group's call for St Augustine's Street to be pedestrianised to help regenerate the area and improve air quality. 116 St Clement's Hill Peter was elected to represent Thorpe Hamlet ward in 2008. Peter played a key role in the Green Party's successful campaign to win in Thorpe Hamlet ward - a campaign that saw the party go from being 372 votes behind winning a seat in 2006 to just one vote behind in 2007 and then to a 501 vote majority in 2008. Peter is an active local councillor, attending local residents' meetings and taking up issues that residents raise with him. Outside his work as a Green Party Councillor, Peter is Chair of Norwich Stop the War Coalition and his paid work is teaching adults with disabilities, based at Wensum Lodge. Back to top |

23 Havelock Road In the County Council elections of May 2005 Andrew Boswell was elected as the first Green on Norfolk County Council. Andrew lives in Nelson ward on Havelock Road. He engages in peace and environmental activism with several local groups, and is president of the local United Nations Association (UNA) branch. 41 Neville Street In the Town Close by-election of 26 May 2005 Green Party candidate Chris Hull achieved a massive 15% swing to win the second seat for the Greens on Norfolk County Council. Chris lives on Neville Street and has lived and worked in Norwich for 24 years. Chris is a committee member of the Residents Against Unthank Tesco group. He also supported the successful campaign against the proposed development on the Hewett School playing fields. Chris is a keen cyclist and has been a campaigns volunteer for Oxfam for many years, and is a Governor at Bignold Middle School. Back to top |
