The Green Party is campaigning against the application by Tesco to build a store on the corner of Unthank Road and Trinity Street. Green Councillor Chris Hull is a member of the Residents Against Unthank Tesco (RAUT) committee which is organising the efforts to stop the proposals. The Green Party believes that a Tesco store on Unthank Road would pose a threat to independent businesses in the area. There is also a concern that a Tesco store would worsen traffic problems in the area.
Four Tesco applications have been rejected by the City Council Planning Committee but an appeal hearing is likely to take place in late 2008.
